Waldorf Man Assaults Roommate with Kitchen Knife


On Jan. 22 at 9:53 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Westdale Drive in Waldorf for unknown trouble. Upon arrival, officers found Ruben Hernandez, 24, and an 18-year-old man, who both live at the residence, bleeding and suffering from knife wounds. Investigation revealed the men became involved in a fight while drinking alcohol. Hernandez retrieved a kitchen knife and attempted to stab the victim. The victim grabbed the knife, causing a laceration to his hand. They continued to fight until officers arrived.

They were transported to Civista Medical Center for treatment. Upon Hernandez's release from the hospital later that evening, officers arrested him and charged him with first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a deadly weapon with intent to injure. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Officer C. Strafella investigated.
