Karen Lee Scott, 74, of Ridge, MD entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 16, 2017. Karen was the daughter of the late Mary Emma and Robert L. Marpel was born on August 2, 1942. She received her formal education from North High School in Hagerstown, MD. Following graduation, Karen was employed at the U.S. Department Commerce-Census Bureau for over 30 years until her retirement in October, 1996.

She married the love of her life, Joseph on May 17, 2007. She was a very caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Karen loved her home so much. Some of her favorite hobbies and pastimes included collecting lighthouses, being near the water and planting and growing flowers, but most importantly, she loved her family dinners. In preparing those special dinners, she took special care to ensure everything was right. Sometimes she may have been in pain, but she made sure that each person was totally satisfied. A remembrance of her is that she was a loyal, kind, gracious, humble and loving person.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Robert B. Marpel; sister-in-law, Margaret Scott Preston and brother-in-law, James "Jimmy" Scott. Karen is survived by her husband, Joseph E. Scott of 10 years; sons, Alvin E. (Angela), of Accokeek, MD, Aaron E, of Laurel, MD, Ricardo E. (Kun), of Woodbridge, VA and Joseph A. Scott (Gigi), of New Carrollton, MD, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Bernadette White and Marie Scott; three brothers-in-law, Clayton (Sarah), Major and Moses Scott and a host of nieces, nephews, family and special friends, Patsy Ann Garns and Cynthia and Raphael Thompson.

Family and friends will unite on Saturday, April 22, 2017 for visitation at 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 16922 Saint Peter Claver Rd, Saint Inigoes, MD 20684. On Monday, April 24, 2017, interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD. Arrangements by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home.
