Bill Davis, most recently of Charleston Senior Community in Waldorf MD, formerly of District Heights and Ocean City MD, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 92 years young.

Loving father of William Paul (Debra) Davis, John Reid (Barbara) Davis, and Peggy Davis Coons, grandfather of Brian Coons, Gregory (Lori) Coons, Allison (Jeremy) Sellick, Kevin (Jane) Davis, and Lauren Davis, and granddaughter-in-law Sarah Davis, great-grandfather of 11, sister Doris (Warren) McMichael, numerous nieces and nephews and Phyllis Smith, former wife. Proceeded in death by his parents, Cora (Reid) Davis Rivers and William Hampton Davis, sister Alice Clark, brother-in-law Alvin Clark, and grandson Ryan Paul Davis.

Bill served in the First Division Marine Corps July 1944 through May 1946; he fought in World War II in Battle of Okinawa and received the Purple Heart; he served in the Marine Corps Reserves until Dec. 1950 as an aircraft electrician with a rank of Corporal. He worked as an electrician for PEPCO for 37 years before retiring. Bill coached for about fifty years starting with District Heights football, and then girls' softball and basketball. Upon retirement, he moved to Ocean City MD where he continued coaching girls' teams. At that time District Heights honored Bill with a "Bill Davis Day" and parade. He was always active doing volunteer work.

He was presented with many awards including District Heights 1967 Citizen of the Year, Mayor & Commissioners Award 1967, 1999 Ocean City Volunteer of the Year, Boys & Girls Club named a trophy after him that is presented to the Girl of the Year, he was first to receive the MD Recreation & Parks Community Volunteer Award in 2008, "Good Sports" Award by the Mid-Atlantic Recreation & Sports Alliance presented in the Maryland State House 2008. In 2005, the Ocean City Mayor presented him with the Keys to the City for chairing the Love America Committee responsible for raising funds and the construction of the Military Flag Plaza and Memorial at Northside Park. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and in 2008 was awarded an American Flag by a Navy Seal during the Ocean City Air Show who skydived down to him on the beach to present it to him for his service and volunteer work.
