Selma "Sally" Jean Gheen, 92, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD on August 6, 2019. Sally was born on April 15, 1927 in New Canaan, Connecticut to the late James and Frances Torpey. Sally married her best friend and the love of her life, Fred T. Gheen, on November 11, 1947. Together they celebrated almost seventy (70) years of marriage before Fred's passing in December 2016.

They moved to St. Mary's County in 1982 and enjoyed their home on the river, fishing, crabbing, cruising on the boat, swimming, gardening, and just watching the river. Sally spent many autumn weekends with her family and friends in the mountains of West Virginia. She was an active member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Mechanicsville, MD, and an officer/member of the St. Mary's County Women's Club for many years. She felt the most contentment in the company of her husband, family and friends. Although, she will be missed, her family takes comfort in the knowledge she has found eternal peace with her husband in the glory of our Saviors heavenly embrace.

Sally is survived by her children, Michael T. Gheen (Barbara) of Mechanicsville, MD and Penny Dee Haag (Steven) of Williamsburg, VA; three (3) grandchildren, Jason Haag, Kenneth Gheen, and Tracy Vergowe; and six (6) great-grandchildren, Colby, Donovan, Jackson, Lily, Peyton, and Tristan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister, Catherine Price.

The family will receive friends for Sally's Visitation on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a Funeral Service heard at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 37707 New Market Turner Road, Charlotte Hall, MD by Pastor Gary Pomrenke. Interment will follow immediately in the church cemetery. Arrangements by the Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., Charlotte Hall, Maryland.
