James Allan Bennett, Jr. of Cobb Island, MD died on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD. He was 71 years old.

Mr. Bennett was a railroad engineer for 30 years with Norfolk/Southern Railroad and served in the MD National Guard in his earlier years. He enjoyed playing cards, especially at the VFW card league, crabbing, and being on the boat. He especially liked being with family and grandchildren.

Son of the late James Allan Bennett, Sr., and the late Mary Rebecca Bowling Bennett. Predeceased by his parents; his late daughter, Allison Bennett; and a late sister, Rebecca Ann Bennett.

Survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Cooksey Bennett; one son, James A. (Debbie) Bennett III of Mechanicsville, MD; two brothers, Stuart (Georgia Lee) Bennett of Faulkner, MD and Ralph (Sandy) Bennett of Afghanistan; and four grandchildren, Brian, Jimmy, Megan, and Allie. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation: Monday, June 25, 2012 from 2:30PM until time of Funeral Service at 4PM at Christ Episcopal Church - Wayside (13050 Rock Point Road, Newburg, MD 20664). Clergy: Rev. Robert Gillespie. Interment: Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Brian, Jimmy, and Jeff Bennett, Robbie Cooksey, Frank Fairfax, and David Swan Honorary Pallbearers: Allie Pitzer, Wayne Schuhart, and Megan Bennett.
