Augustus "Gus" Washington Bowling, III, 50, died March 15, 2013, at his home in La Plata, MD. He was born on March 28, 1962 in La Plata, MD. To Augustus W. Bowling, Jr. and Lois Diane Bowling.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his loving wife Paula Ann Bowling, son Joshua Wayne Bowling and stepson Justin Leigh Shadle, stepmother Thelma Bowling, brothers Joseph Paul Bowling and wife Cara G. Bowling, Alan Christopher Bowling, step-brother Edward Hantzmon, III and wife Mary Hantzmon, step-sister Debra Ann Marshall and husband Steve Marshall, sisters-in-laws Catherine Bramell, Deborah Adams and husband William Adams, father-in-Law John Jameson, Jr. and wife Darlene Jameson, mother-in-law Beverly Wareham and several nieces and nephews.

He was a Fireman and paramedic for the U.S. Navy. He attended Archbishop Neale School, St. Mary's Ryken, La Plata High School and the University of Maryland. He also loved golf and baseball. His firefighter career started at the Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Department serving as 2nd Lt. 1986, 1st Lt. 1987 and 1988, Deputy Chief 1991, Deputy Chief and Board of Directors 1993, Chief and Board of Directors 1994, Deputy Chief 1996, Captain 1997, Chief and Board of Directors 1998 and 1999. Was a member of Medic Unit Co. # 60 from Dec. 1998 to Apr. 2005. He was a member of the Waldorf Vol. Fire Department from 2000 to present as a Firefighter and EMT Paramedic holding the positions of Fire Lt., EMS Safety Officer for the past 6 years, EMS QA/QI Officer for 2 years, Charles County IV Tech. Coordinator and CPR Instructor from 2000 to present.

His US Navy Federal Firefighter career started on August 18, 1988 as a temporary Firefighter at Patuxent River, on January 1, 1989 was transferred to NOS, Indian Head, in 1994 was promoted to Driver, on December 6, 1998 was promoted to Captain, April 2001 was promoted to Operations Chief (Asst. Chief), May 2007 he became Regional Training Chief for the Navel District Washington, December 31, 2012 he retired.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 20th at the Sacred Heart Church La Plata, MD. from 3 to 8 PM, with prayers at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 21st at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church. Interment to follow at the St. Ignatius Church Cemetery.
