Benjamin Howard Altimus passed away on August 27, 2013 at the age of 82.

Ben was a man with many names: Dad, Pops, PaPa, Uncle Ben, Old Man and brother. He was born in Pennsylvania and lived his adult life in D.C., Accokeek, Maryland and finally came to Mechanicsville, Maryland in 1993.

He married Madeline Mae Poloski in 1950 and always lived life to the fullest.

After years in the elevator business he retired and became one of the finest carpenters in Southern Maryland. He always said a hammer could fix anything.
He enjoyed time with his family and friends, camping in Indian Acres, hanging out at the Moose Lodge, pulling slots with his girls or just fishing on a river.

He was preceded in death by his wife Madeline and his daughter Karen Ann Goris.

He is survived by his daughters Kathy (Owens) Hayden, Kim (Ronnie) King, Kelly (Bruce) Stanley; son-in-law William Goris; sister-in-law Elizabeth Higgins; brothers Harry (Margaret), Oren (Dorothy), James (Kaye), William (Aggie), Richard (Helen); sisters Janet (Frank) Janosik, Jean Cusic (and sadly he lost his little sister Patricia on August 25, 2013); grandchildren Ryan (Kristy) Burrell, Casey (DJ) Garner, Julie Bast, Michael Hayden, Frankie Hayden, Dwayne (Sherri) King, Jeremy King, Blake (Jessica) King, Jessica (Michael) Wright and Paige Stanley; great grandchildren Taylor, Alex, Sadie Mae, Bryson, Haley, Jonathon, Sean, Shane, Drayce, Danika, Daimon, Adriel, Laila, Nathan, Corbin, Decklan, and Emma Kaye.

His grandchildren were his pride and joy and the great-grandchildren will be hearing great stories about their PaPa.

He loved all his nieces and nephews and was always there for them. We can't say Thank You enough to his friends Spence Hayden, Henry Hill and Tom Leymeister for helping him make the most of his days.

The family will receive friends at the Huntt Funeral Home Waldorf, Maryland on Saturday August 31, 2013 from 10am to 12pm. The funeral service will begin at 12pm at the Huntt Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens Waldorf, Maryland.

Arrangements provided by Huntt Funeral Home.
