On Saturday, April 26, 2008, you and your family are invited to enjoy a celebration of the finest Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Manx, Breton, Cornish, and English heritage replete with parades of bagpipe bands and more than 50 societies and related clans. This one-day event held at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in St. Leonard, Calvert County, Maryland, provides an opportunity to enjoy the common cultural threads interwoven in the fabric that is the Celtic heritage.

The festival features athletic competitions, music and dance exhibitions, Celtic food and marketplace.  This fun-filled day wraps up with the Ceilidh/Ceili (party) in the pavilion offering all an opportunity to learn and participate in various dances with live music as a background.   Click for more information and directions!

Crab Festival Moves to County Fairgrounds

The St. Mary's County Crab Festival, sponsored by the Leonardtown Lions Club, will move to the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds this year. The fun begins at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2008, and will run until 5 p.m. Besides crabs in hardshells, softshells and cakes, there will be live music, a classic car show, arts & crafts, country dancing and a moon bounce. Bailey's Catering, Copsey's Seafood Catering, Sandgates Inn, the Lexington Park Lions Club, Scrumptious Entrees and Sunshine Catering will provide crabs, beverages and other seafood and non-seafood dishes for your enjoyment. Admission through the gate is $5 per person. Children under 12 are free and there is a maximum charge of $20 per carload. Food items are additional.

St. Mary’s County Department of Aging’s Adult Day Services program is a licensed daytime health services program designed to meet the health care and social needs of adults with significant physical or cognitive challenges. Program participants are typically unable to stay home alone because of their physical or mental challenges and have complex health needs that require daily attention. Individuals usually become program participants as a result of a referral by physicians, families and caregivers or other health and social service agencies in the community.

Many program participants are eligible to have their care covered under the Medical Assistance Program. Individualized plans of care are developed by a multi-disciplinary team of health care and social work professionals to meet the restorative and maintenance needs of persons with physical, mental, and functional disabilities and to assist their caregivers in coping with the stress of providing care.
