Maryland really comes alive during the holiday season. We've listed all of
the major holiday events and festivities for you on this page. There is also a
special page dedicated to Santa's schedule. Don't forget
to check the Community Calendar
for other interesting events. If you don't find something to your liking here,
we have a list of
other Holiday Guides that you may find useful. Not sure what to expect? We
have some photos of previous year's events.Major Events In 1882, the first Christmas tree was lit by the use
of electricity. Edward Johnson lighted up a Christmas tree in New York City
with eighty small electric light bulbs.
Garden In Lights Christmas Lights @ Flat Iron Farm Bubby Knott of the Great Mills Trading Post invites the public to drive through his farm to see the spectacular lighting display. You can drive through starting at dark. Just turn onto Flat Iron Road from Route 5 by the Brass Rail bar. The farm is several miles up the road on the right. Thursday through Sunday, the barns are open to the public from 5pm - 9pm, featuring shops, displays and pony rides for the kids. Santa is also known to arrive on occasion. Photos from previous years can be seen here. This is a "don't miss it" St. Mary's County holiday tradition!
