Trees Available For Spring Planting On Public Land

ANNAPOLIS — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forest Service is reminding Marylanders that spring trees and shrubs are now in stock for public land planting by groups such as homeowner associations, county or municipal governments, schools, environmental groups and service organizations.

Planting trees is a great way to be actively involved in enhancing community open spaces and rights-of-ways, school grounds and neighborhood parks. In addition, planting helps establish forest buffers of trees and shrubs along streams, creeks and rivers to support the goals of the Stream ReLeaf program, while improving and protecting the health of the community and the Chesapeake Bay.

All trees are container grown in three or five gallon pots. Native tree species that are available include redbud, northern red oak, maple, various oaks, dogwood, river birch, sycamore, tulip poplar, arrowwood viburnum, red twig dogwood and summersweet clethra.

To purchase trees or obtain an order form, call the Maryland DNR Forest Service TREE-MENDOUS MARYLAND Program at 410-260-8531. You may also visit the DNR Online website at http://www.dnr.maryland.gov/forests/treemendous where you can find more information and download an order form.
