The Charles County Sheriff's Office Traffic Operations Unit has concluded its investigation of the crash that killed an off-duty Sheriff's officer April 11, and the driver of another vehicle involved in the crash has been charged.

Cpl. Paul Gilbert Morgan, Jr., 46, of Waldorf, was traveling west on Smallwood Drive West near St. Nicholas Drive in Waldorf on his motorcycle when a Mercury Mountaineer turned right on a red traffic signal from an access road off Mall Circle into his motorcycle's path. Cpl. Morgan swerved to avoid striking the Mountaineer and subsequently struck the curb and lost control of the motorcycle.

The driver of the Mercury Mountaineer, Trina Lee Smith, 35, of Waldorf, was issued a citation on May 27 for failure to yield intersection right of way to a vehicle after turn on a red signal.

Cpl. D. Belfield of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.
