July 26, 2005:
On July 25 at 5 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to a residence in the 140 block of Jefferson Road in Waldorf for the report of a possible breaking and entering. A woman who lives at the residence said when she arrived home from work, she opened the door and heard movement inside. She said she called out to her son, who also lives at the residence, but there was no answer. There was an unknown vehicle in her driveway so she fled to a neighbor's house and called police.
Upon arrival, officers observed a Honda Civic in the victim's driveway and a computer check revealed the tags were stolen in Charles County. When officers entered the home, they also heard movement upstairs and ordered the people inside to come downstairs. One of the suspects stated they would not comply, but after about 15 minutes, a 15-year-old Largo, Md., boy and a 14-year-old Waldorf girl complied. They came downstairs and officers placed them in custody. They said there was only one other person inside the residence, a 17-year-old Waldorf boy. Officers went upstairs to apprehend the third suspect, who was identified as the victim's son. They found him in a small crawlspace inside a bedroom closet. The boy exited the crawlspace and officers took him into custody. The vehicle was later confirmed to be stolen in Prince George's County. The juveniles were charged with theft of a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of property less than $500, theft more than $500, theft less than $500 and rogue and vagabond and were released to their parents. Officer K. Klezia investigated.
