White Plains Woman Dies in Four-Vehicle Crash


December 4, 2005 7:53 a.m.

A 1998 Ford Ranger operated by a 17 year old Waldorf male was traveling southbound on MD Rt. 229, south of Carrie Court when it crossed into the northbound lane and collided head on with the 1997 Ford Contour driven by Senora Benjamin, 56 years, of White Plains.

A 1998 Lincoln Navigator being operated by Ronald Athelstan Hamilton, 46 years of White Plains, was traveling behind Ms. Benjamin. He swerved to avoid hitting her and struck the vehicle driven by the teen.

A fourth vehicle, driven by Robert Alexander Cash, 25 years of Waldorf, then struck Ms. Benjamin's vehicle in the rear.

The juvenile, Ms. Benjamin and Mr. Hamilton received incapacitating injuries. The juvenile was flown to Prince George's Hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 7. Ms. Benjamin was flown to Prince George's Hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 2, where she died from injuries she sustained in the accident. Mr. Hamilton was transported to Civista Medical Center by ambulance.

Mr. Cash was not injured.

Charges are pending. Tpr. R. Garrett is conducting this investigation.
