Besche Oil Truck Overturns on Kentucky Avenue

On March 7 at 12:26 p.m., a Besche Oil truck hauling 600 gallons of home heating fuel was traveling southbound on Kentucky Avenue when it left the roadway and overturned. Preliminary investigation has revealed a logging truck traveling in the opposite direction ran the oil truck off the roadway. The driver of the oil truck, Michael Anthony Bean, 49, of Charlotte Hall, could not regain control of the truck once it left the roadway and it overturned.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office and fire and emergency medical services personnel responded to the scene. The truck had a slow leak and the Charles County Hazmat unit responded to contain the spill, which is estimated to be between 10 and 15 gallons. The Maryland Department of the Environment responded to pump the oil to an empty Besche truck. The driver did not sustain serious injuries but was transported to Southern Maryland Hospital Center as a precaution. Kentucky Avenue is expected to remain closed at Route 6 and Bowling Dr. until 5 p.m. Officer R. Glover of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the crash.
