FLEEING POLICE: On April 2 at 4:50 p.m., Sgt. D. Bacon attempted to stop a motorcycle in the area of La Plata Road and Kerrick Drive in La Plata for a minor traffic violation. The motorcycle pulled to the shoulder of the road and then sped off. Sgt. Bacon and Officer R. Bagley of the La Plata Town Police stopped the motorcycle near Charles Street in La Plata. The driver was identified as Ryan Douglas Coffren, 23, of Waldorf. He was charged with failing to fasten license plate in a visible position, fleeing and eluding, driving while suspended, passing in no-passing zone and speeding. Coffren is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT: On April 1 at 1:20 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Safeway located at 10 King Street in Waldorf, for the report of a theft. Investigation revealed store employees observed three people exit the store with a grocery cart of items that had not been paid for. When the store manager confronted them in the parking lot, two of the three fled the area but were located a short time later by police. Belinda Shree Taylor, 19 of Landover, and two Waldorf girls, ages 14 and 17, were charged with theft of property valued less than $500. Taylor was issued a criminal citation and the two juveniles were charged and released to their parents pending action by Juvenile Services. Cpl. K. Wilson investigated.

POSSESSION OF COCAINE: On March 31 at 4:05 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers from the Community Policing Unit were investigating complaints of drug activity in the 12000 block of Idlewood Park Drive in Waldorf. A large group of juveniles were in the area and when officers approached them, they observed a juvenile throw a bag on the ground that contained crack cocaine. The 17-year-old Waldorf boy was charged with possession of crack cocaine and possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine. He is being held at the Cheltenham Youth Facility pending an appearance before the Juvenile Court. Cpl. C. Smith investigated.
