Deadline for Change of Party Affiliation for 2006 Gubernatorial Primary Election is June 19

State law provides that before any regular Primary Election, a registered voter may not change the voter's party affiliation or change to or from an "unaffiliated" status after 9:00 p.m. on the Monday that is 12 weeks or 84 days before the Primary Election. Therefore, a Maryland voter has until 9:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2006, to change political party affiliation.

There is an exception for any registered voter who has moved from one Maryland jurisdiction to another since the last General Election (November 7, 2004): such a voter may change party affiliation until the registration books close at 9:00 p.m., on August 22, 2006. The 2006 Gubernatorial General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2006.
