Man Flees from Police by Jumping into River; Can't Swim


The driver then fled on foot and jumped into the river. He could not swim and came back to shore where he was quickly apprehended.On July 2 at 4:45 p.m., Cpl. J. Puffenbarger was flagged down by a citizen on Rock Point Road in Issue, who advised him her boyfriend had stolen her cell phone and was wanted in Prince George’s County. Cpl. Puffenbarger located the vehicle on Rock Point Road traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver turned onto Swan Point Road in Issue and refused to stop. He continued driving erratically down Swan Point Blvd., turned into a parking lot at the end of the road and proceeded off the parking lot onto a grassy area, through a ditch and struck a tree. The driver then fled on foot and jumped into the river. He could not swim and came back to shore where he was quickly apprehended.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Spencer Arvell Myers, Sr., 34, of Accokeek. He was charged with fleeing and eluding in a vehicle, fleeing and eluding on foot, driving while suspended and numerous other traffic violations. Myers also had a warrant for his arrest in Prince George’s County for assault. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.
