Charles Habitat for Humanity Gets New President

Posted on July 14, 2006:
Joseph T. "Joe" Crawford is the new President of Habitat for Humanity in Charles County. The Board of Directors unanimously elected him to the position at their June meeting. Before becoming President, Crawford served as the Vice President of Administration, overseeing public relations and resource development.

Crawford succeeds Robert W. "Bob" Harry, who served for the past three years. According to a source at the organization, "Bob felt confident in handing over the reins, knowing that a positive Board and competent staff could faithfully continue the mission to eliminate substandard housing in Charles County." He remains in an advisory role as Past President.

Beyond Habitat, Crawford's community involvement has included United Way, Kiwanis Club, Charles County Tech Council, VICS program, American Red Cross, Christmas In April, Shade Tree Foundation, Project Mercy, Christian Businessman's Committee, the Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Read Around The World, and other various humanitarian or church related volunteer efforts. Crawford has also been active in local government and politics. Now a business consultant, Crawford and his wife, Vicki, and son, J. T., live in Waldorf.

Habitat for Humanity in Charles County is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry. Habitat welcomes all people-regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or any other difference-to build simple, decent, affordable houses with those who lack adequate shelter.
