WALDORF, Md. - On Oct. 12 at 11:42 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 2800 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a dump truck driven by Charles Hurbert Posey, 79, of Indian Head was traveling southbound when a 1989 Cadillac traveling beside it drifted into its lane and struck its front passenger tire. The driver of the dump truck lost control of the vehicle, which struck a curb, jumped the median and struck a northbound Charles County Sheriff’s Office cruiser driven by Officer R. Anderson.

A Toyota Matrix driven by Willis Curry Peel, 74, of Waldorf struck debris from the cruiser. The dump truck then struck a northbound pickup truck driven by Donald Raymond Lloyd, 60, of Fort Washington and overturned. A sixth vehicle took evasive action and struck a curb.

The driver of the Cadillac, Shirley Ann Watson, 69, of Waldorf, the officer, Willis and the driver of the sixth vehicle were not injured. Lloyd was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Posey and a passenger in the dump truck sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

Cpl. D. Belfield of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the crash.
