St. Mary's County Parks Temporarily Closed For Construction

LEONARDTOWN, Md. - The St. Marys County Department of Recreation, Parks and Community Services announced today that Elms Beach Park and George B. Cecil Park are temporarily closed due to construction of new playgrounds at each park.

Elms Beach Park will reopen on Friday, November 3, 2006 after the installation of the playground is complete. The new playground is designed for children from ages 2 through 12 and includes poured-in-place rubberized surfacing to maximize safety and accessibility for individuals of all ability levels. The playgrounds design features a crazy bones bridge, a hand-over-hand activity below the bridge and whirlwind climbers. The playground also includes a separate, accessible sound and music center.

Cecil Park will reopen for use on Sunday, November 5, 2006. This facility is also designed for children ages 2 through 12 and includes rubberized safety surfacing. Features for this new playground include two-story climbing areas and climbing boulders to maximize play experiences for children. Also, a challenging play web structure will be installed at the park--the first Playworld play web to be installed at a Maryland playground.
