MECHANICSVILLE, Md. - Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing their investigation of an early Tuesday morning house fire that critically injured a Mechanicsville man. Troy Neville, age 38, suffered second and third degree burns to his face, arms, and legs and remains in critical condition at the Washington Hospital Center.

The 6:56 a.m. fire on East Edin View Drive in Mechanicsville caused an estimated $400,000 damage to the split foyer, single family home owned by Ms. Mary Cave, the mother-in-law of the injured man.

Forty firefighters from Mechanicsville, Hughesville, Hollywood, Seventh District, and Golden Beach were able to bring the fire under control in thirty minutes. There were no firelighter injuries.

Deputy State Fire Marshals have determined the fire began in a family room on the lower level of the home. A smoke alarm activated awakening the injured man and 8-year-old Jacob Neville. Although youth safely escaped the home and it is believed Mr. Neville attempted to fight the fire. The exact cause of the fire has not been determined; however no evidence has been discovered to indicate arson as the cause.
