LA PLATA, Md. - The latest in an ongoing wave of armed robberies in Charles County has turned fatal. One man was shot dead and another injured by gunfire in a failed robbery attempt in Waldorf last night.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Department, on Dec. 28 at 11:33 p.m., officers responded to a parking lot in the 3200 block of Westdale Court in Waldorf for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 2005 Dodge Magnum that had been damaged by several bullet holes. They discovered a man inside the vehicle who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. They also found an adult male lying near the vehicle with a gunshot injury. Two other adult male victims, who were not injured, were also at the scene.

The injured man was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Baltimore Shock Trauma, where he is said to be in serious but stable condition.

The officer's investigation revealed that the four victims were seated inside the vehicle when they were approached by four or five black male suspects wearing dark clothing and masks and armed with handguns. The suspects demanded property from the victims and, during the robbery attempt, fired several shots into the vehicle. Police did not say what the four victims were doing together in a parked vehicle at close to midnight.

The suspects fled the scene on foot. It does not appear they obtained any of the victims’ property. Officers, including a K9 team, searched the area but did not locate the suspects.

The deceased victim was identified as Steven Fulton McGregor, Jr., 25, of Forestville, Md. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The identities of the other victims are not being released to the public because they are considered witnesses in the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information about this investigation to contact Det. C. Shankster at 301-609-6513 or Charles County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment in this case.
