LA PLATA, Md. (March 20, 2008) -- The Charles County Department of Emergency Services' Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division is working to protect all of the patients in Charles County, even if they have four legs. The Division, in cooperation with the County's Animal Control Division, recently sponsored the training of 50 career and volunteer members for the American Red Cross' Pet First Aid Certification.

Following the training, the EMS division was contacted by Susan Wells of Labrador Retriever Rescue, Inc., in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Wells indicated that she was interested in donating several sets of pet oxygen masks. Each set is made up of three different sizes, which allows them to fit a wide variety of animals.

So far, the Division has received two sets of masks, which have been placed in each EMS Duty Supervisor's vehicle. The County has requested more sets have in order for them to be placed in emergency vehicles and local animal shelters.
