LA PLATA, Md. (May 08, 2008) -- A Maryland State Trooper from the La Plata Barrack was involved in a three car accident on Tuesday. Non-life threatening injuries were received by persons in all three vehicles. The driver of the at-fault vehicle was to be charged with DWI among others.

According to the police report, Trooper Kemery Hunt was traveling southbound on MD Route 5 at St. Charles Parkway when a second vehicle failed to stop for the red light, attempted to make a left turn and struck Hunt's vehicle. The marked Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser was pushed into a third vehicle, a 1988 Ford Dump Truck operated by Clarence Thompson, age 64 of Waldorf.

The second vehicle, which caused the accident, was a 1990 Volvo operated by Leobardo Guzman Norvaez, age 34. The police report lists Norvaez's city of residence as "unknown."

Norvaez was transported to PG County Hospital via Trooper 7 helicopter with non-life threatening injuries.

Thompson received non-life threatening injuries, but was not transported to a medical facility.

According to the police report, Norvaez was to be charged with DWI and numerous traffic violations with criminal charges.
