State Recommends St. Mary's Schools Receive 39% of Requested FY-2010 Capital Funds

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Dec. 22, 2008) -- On December 9, 2008, the Public School Construction Program announced that St. Mary's County Public Schools has been recommended to receive $2,263,000 in state funding for the FY 2010 state capital improvements program. This represents 39% of the total funds requested by the school system for FY 2010.

The projects included in the recommendation are: Oakville Elementary School HVAC Systemic Renovation, Loveville Building at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School HVAC Systemic Renovation, Greenview Knolls Elementary School HVAC Systemic Renovation, and Loveville Building at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School Roof Systemic Renovation.

The projects not approved at this time include the Leonardtown Middle School Limited Renovation and planning approval for a second new elementary school.

The school system will be appealing for the approval of these remaining projects at the state Board of Public Works (BPW) hearing on January 28, 2009.

The three-member Board of Public Works, chaired by Governor O’Malley, is comprised of Treasurer Nancy Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot. The BPW is authorized by the General Assembly to approve major construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
