North Beach Man Perishes in Head-On Crash in Owings


OWINGS, Md. (Sept. 2, 2009)—Phillip Alexander Sullivan, 81 of North Beach, died as a result of injuries sustained when his vehicle was hit head-on by a 1996 Chevrolet S-10 truck driven by Brian James Mackall, 19 of Owings, according to police. The accident occurred on Monday around 8:47 a.m. on eastbound Mt. Harmony Rd at Rue Court in Owings.

The preliminary investigation by police revealed that Mackall was driving east on Mt. Harmony Road near Rue Court when his vehicle crossed the double yellow centerline into westbound traffic and struck Sullivan's 1998 Lincoln Continental head-on.

The passenger in the Lincoln was identified as Louise Adele Sullivan, 78 of North Beach.

Mackall was transported by ambulance to Prince George's Hospital.

Phillip Sullivan and Louise Sullivan were transported by Maryland State Police Medevac helicopter to Prince George's Hospital. Phillip Sullivan died from his injuries.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Lewis of the Maryland State Police, Prince Frederick Barrack.
