LA PLATA, Md. (Jan. 13, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

UNLICENSED JUVENILE CHARGED WITH OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE: On Jan 13 at 6:25 a.m., officers working a traffic assignment in the 13000 block of Plantation Drive in Charlotte Hall observed a 1994 Ford Aerostar being driven on the wrong side of the roadway. A traffic stop was initiated and officers learned the driver was 14-years-old. Investigation revealed the youth was driving to his school bus stop and that his mother gave him permission to operate the vehicle which was unregistered and uninsured. Officers towed the vehicle and the youth was sent to school. Charges are pending the outcome of an investigation. Officer R. Glover is handling the case.

FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT: On Jan. 13 at 12:07 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Acadia Drive in Waldorf for a report of a fight. Investigation revealed the victim, 39, of Waldorf, was struck in the head with a sledge hammer by the suspect, Stephen Martin Albert Kite, 47, of Waldorf. Kite was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. The victim was treated for non life-threatening injuries. Officer C. Walden made the arrest.

WARRANT SERVED: On Jan 9, at 6:48 p.m., officers responded to Shelton Court in Indian Head for a 911 hang up. Once on the scene, officers established the call was regarding an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. A lookout for the suspect and vehicle was broadcast. The vehicle was later observed at Lee's Market and the driver, Ricardo Andre Lewis, 24, of Indian Head, was arrested on two outstanding warrants for child support violations. Officer J. Plunkett made the arrest.

DRUG ARREST: On Jan. 8, at 11:19 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop in the 2600 block of Mattawoman Beantown Road in Waldorf after observing a traffic violation. The driver of the car refused to stop and continued to Route 5 and Route 301 where he finally stopped. Officers recovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the car. The driver, Richardson Kenneth Gumbs, Jr., 34, of Laurel, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute. Officer R. Johnson made the arrest.

DIRECTED PATROL RESULTS IN MULTIPLE ARRESTS: On Jan 4 and Jan. 5, members of the Charles County Sheriff's Office, District II station conducted special enforcement in the area of the 3100 block of Marshall Hall Road in Bryans Road after receiving numerous complaints about loitering. As a result, eight people were arrested:

-- Ricky Jerome Warren, 44, of Bryans Road, charged with carrying an open container of alcoholic beverage in public;

-- Lawrence Maurice Anderson, 47, of Bryans Road, charged with carrying an open container of alcoholic beverage in public;

-- Derrick Demone Robinson, 21, of Bryans Road, charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct;

-- Lamar Kendrick Brooks, 22, of Waldorf, charged with possession of drugs and possession of paraphernalia;

-- Ebony Creshawn Neely, 18, of Bryans Road, charged with possession of drugs and paraphernalia;

-- Gary John Mills, 22, of Bryans Road, charged with possession of drugs and paraphernalia;

-- Lauren Denise Giles, 20, of Fort Washington, charged with possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia;

-- Hilda Elizabeth Thomas, 54, of Indian Head, charged with driving under the influence.
