WALDORF, Md. (Jan. 14, 2009) -- An Accokeek woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning on Route 228 in Waldorf. Patricia Yvette Mason, age 48, was transported to Civista Medical Center via ambulance with life-threatening injuries. Ms. Mason later passed away due to the injuries she sustained from the collision.
Police believe Mason was walking eastbound on MD Route 228 east of Chestnut Drive on the right shoulder around 2:35 a.m. An unknown vehicle, operated by an unknown driver, was also traveling eastbound on Route 228 on the right shoulder when the vehicle struck Ms. Mason for reasons unknown.
Police say the driver fled the scene after striking the pedestrian.
