Courthouse Bomb Threats Continue

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (May 7, 2009)—A bomb threat in Calvert County this morning at 11:20 a.m. forced an evacuation of both the District and Circuit Court buildings in Prince Frederick. The two courthouses, the court house annex, and adjacent buildings and grounds were checked for explosive devices by police with negative results. The facilities were subsequently declared safe and regular business resumed shortly after noon.

Personnel from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police Barrack U, and explosive detection K9 teams from Prince George's County Police Department responded.

A similar false bomb threat was placed around 8:08 a.m. on March 19.

St. Mary's County was the target of a false bomb threat against their courthouses in Leonardtown at approximately 12:52 p.m on April 23.

St. Mary's County was also the target of eight bomb threats against the California Wal-Mart during February. A female employee of the store, from Lusby, Calvert County, was arrested for making those threats on Feb. 21.

Police are asking anyone with information about the bomb threats in Calvert County to contact Det. Ronald Naughton at 410-535-2800.
