Three Juveniles Charged for 'Soda Bottle Bomb' Detonation

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (Feb. 4, 2010) State Fire Marshals have charged three juveniles with making and detonating a “soda bottle bomb” at 10155 Tucker Lane in White Plains on January 6. The three juveniles, two 15-year-olds and a 17-year-old, who live in White Plains and Waldorf, were charged Thursday morning.
State Fire Marshals and Charles County Sheriffs investigated the incident after the device was detonated in the front yard of an acquaintance of the boys. The boys reportedly were angry at their friend’s parents resulting in the use of the device.
The boys were charged with Manufacture, Possession and Use of a Destructive Device. They were released to the custody of parents. The case will be referred to Charles County juvenile authorities.
Such a device is legally known as an Improvised Explosive Device. The penalty for this crime is a maximum twenty-five years imprisonment, fines not to exceed twenty-five thousand dollars or both.
