(March 2, 2010) – Midday Wednesday, CSX Transportation will close a portion of MD 725 (Marlboro Pike) between U.S. 301 (Crain Highway) and MD 202 (Largo Road) in Upper Marlboro, Prince George’s County. SHA is assisting CSX with the closure on Wednesday, March 3 for a period of one week.

The closure is necessary to ensure worker and motorist safety as CSX makes needed repairs to the existing railroad tracks across MD 725. CSX crews will replace the existing timber crossing with a more durable concrete crossing. The existing crossing was replaced less than three years ago, but the heavy volumes of vehicle traffic caused excessive deterioration of the timbers.

For traffic intending to travel westbound on MD 725, motorists must turn left onto US 301 south, continue along US 301 south to the exit for westbound MD 4 (Pennsylvania Avenue), and follow MD 4 west to the exit for northbound MD 717 (Water Street) to a left onto westbound MD 725.

For traffic intending to travel eastbound on MD 725, motorists must turn left onto MD 717 south to the exit for eastbound MD 4, continue along MD 4 east to the exit for U.S. 301 north, and follow US 301 north to the exit for eastbound MD 725. Local traffic will be permitted to access MD 725 in both directions up to the closures. There will be VMS and detour signs alerting motorists to the change in traffic patterns.

Motorists should prepare for delays and drive carefully in the work zone. Citizens who have questions about traffic operations for this project on MD 725 may call CSX representative Sharon Daboin at 410-368-4724.
