Charles County Sheriff's Reports

LA PLATA, Md. (Sept. 7, 2010) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office released the following incident reports.

SHERIFF’S OFFICE, FIRE DEPARTMENT, WARN OF FUNDRAISING SCAM: The Sheriff’s Office and the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department are warning the public of a possible fundraising scam being conducted by people posing as members of the fire department attempting to collect money on the department’s behalf. The imposters are apparently conducting a door-to-door fundraising campaign, according to the information received by the fire department from a concerned citizen who had been made aware of the campaign. However, the fire department solicits donations by mail — not in person. There is no information indicating how much money — if any — the scammers have collected. Anyone who believes they may have been donated money to the fraudulent campaign should call the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-2222. For more information about the fire department’s fundraising efforts call 301-645-3000.
