Navy Warns of Loud Noise Sept. 9 through 30

PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR STATION, Md. (Sept. 7, 2010)—The U.S. Navy today issued a warning for residents of St. Mary's, Calvert, and Dorchester counties advising that noise-generating test events are scheduled to take place from Sept. 9 through the 30th. During testing, an SH-60F Helicopter from NAS Patuxent River will conduct flights to assess the capability of a helicopter-mounted sound system during day and night environmental conditions. Although only one flight per day is anticipated, both day and night flights are required.

Test flights will be conducted over the Chesapeake Bay, four nautical miles offshore of NAS Patuxent River. Voice announcements and sounds will be broadcast during the test flights. Residents might notice increased noise levels during these flights.
