Fire Marshals Investigating Two Vehicle Fires


SOUTHERN MARYLAND (Sept. 22, 2010)—State fire marshals are investigating two recent vehicles fires—one in Charles County and the other in Calvert.

Deputy Fire Marshal John Nelson investigated a fire in a 2004 Chevrolet Impala that occurred at 812 W. Mount Harmony Road, Owings, Calvert County on Tuesday night. The vehicle is owned by Jonathan Morrissette.

Nelson reported that the fire started in the engine compartment and was discovered by a neighbor. No one was injured. Damages are estimated at $8,000.

It took 20 firefighters from Huntingtown and Dunkirk fire departments approximately 20 minutes to control the fire.

Deputy Fire Marshal S. Cohen investigated a fire on a motor scooter on Middletown Road under the bridge in Waldorf, Charles County, in the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 17. The owner of the scooter is unknown.

Cohen identified the preliminary cause of the fire as incendiary. A passer-by discovered the fire.

Six fire fighters from the Waldorf VFD took approximately 5 minutes to control the blaze.
