St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (November 9, 2010)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

Shawn Lloyd Shaw, 31 of California, Md. (Arrest photo)FIRST, SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On November 5, deputies responded to Deerhaven Lane in California for a report of an assault. Investigation revealed Shawn Lloyd Shaw, 31 of California, pictured at left, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Shaw pushed the victim to the ground and began punching the victim in the face. A third party in the residence attempted to intervene and stop the assault. Shaw then directed his pit-bull dog to attack the third party. The dog bit the second victim in the leg striking the victim's femoral artery. Shaw was arrested and charged with one count of first degree assault and two counts of second degree assault. St. Mary's County Animal Control responded to the residence and took the dog into custody for quarantine.

TRESPASSING: On November 7, deputies responded to the Leonardtown Sunoco in Leonardtown for a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed Steven Wayne Carter, 51 of no fixed address, was asked three times to leave the business by the owner and he refused. Carter was not making any purchase from the business and did not have a lawful reason to remain on the property. Carter was still on the property when deputies arrived. Carter was arrested for trespassing.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH A PEACE ORDER: On November 7, deputies responded to a residence on Hermanville Road for a report of a domestic dispute. Investigation revealed Lauren Tasha Olsen, 22 of Lexington Park, was served with an interim peace order on November 5 ordering Olsen not to enter onto the property/residence of the petitioner of the order. When deputies arrived they found Olsen in the petitioner's residence in violation of the order. Olsen was arrested and charged with Violating the Conditions of a Peace Order.

TRESPASSING, RESISTING ARREST: On November 7, deputies responded to the WaWa in Charlotte Hall for a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed on September 21, Thomas Edwin Burmeister, 28 of no fixed address, was served a notice not to trespass on WaWa's property. When deputies arrived at the WaWa, they found Burmeister on the property disturbing patrons of the business. The deputies told Burmeister he was under arrest for trespassing and attempted to handcuff Burmeister who initially refused to submit to the arrest. After a brief struggle Burmeister was handcuffed without further incident. Burmeister was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On November 7, deputies responded to a residence on Stark Drive in Piney Point for a loud noise and possible underage drinking complaint. Upon arrival, deputies noticed numerous vehicles in the driveway of the residence and could hear loud music coming from inside of the residence. As deputies approached the entrance to the residence they could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the residence. Further investigation revealed Steven Michael Knight, 18 of Hollywood, a guest at the residence was in possession of suspected marijuana. Knight was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, marijuana.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On November 7, deputies responded to a residence on Chancellors Run Court in Lexington Park for a report of a domestic assault. Investigation revealed Sonja Gwenette Gladden, 28 of Lexington Park, was engaged in a verbal dispute which escalated into a physical assault when Gladden struck the victim in the head and mouth. Gladden was arrested and charged with second degree assault.
