St. Mary's Health Dept. Increases Fee for Birth Certificates

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (May 11, 2011) — Beginning June 1, the St. Mary’s County Health Department will increase the fee charged for a birth certificate to $35.00 per copy. The fees, which have not been adjusted since 2003, are being increased in response to rising administrative costs, say department officials.

Individuals born in Maryland after 1940 may receive a copy of their birth certificate at the St. Mary’s County Health Department while they wait, Mon. – Fri, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Anyone born in Maryland prior to 1940 may fill out a form which will be sent to the Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Division of Vital Records in Baltimore. These birth certificates will be mailed within two business days.

For more information or to obtain the forms for the mail-in service, contact the Vital Records Office, St. Mary’s County Health Department at 301-475-4330.
