Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (December 13, 2011)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

OFFICERS APPREHEND BURGLARY SUSPECTS: On Dec. 9 at 12:49 p.m., officers received a call for three suspects trying to break into the rear of a house in the 100 block of River Watch Drive in Indian Head. Officers responded and quickly located three males walking away from the house. Officers checked the house and found a large hole had been cut in the back screen door. The suspects were positively identified and placed under arrest. Damien Jermaine Manning-Smith, 18, of Indian Head, Kyle Lee Banks, 18, of Brandywine, and Donnell Gregory Braxton, 20, of Indian Head, were charged with attempt burglary. PFC B. ATTEMPT THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLES: On Dec. 13, during the early morning hours, officers responded to the 2100 block of Gibbons Court in Waldorf for a theft in progress. The victim reported seeing two unknown males sitting in his 1991 Honda. As he went outside to investigate, the suspects had already fled. A short time later, while officers were checking the area, they located a 1995 Jeep Cherokee in the 2600 block of Husk Place with the car alarm sounding and a rear window broken out. Several hours later, another homeowner in the 2100 block of Goodrick Court found the ignition to his Chrysler van had been damaged. Officers canvassed the area and are working on leads. PFC S. OFFICERS MAKE DRUG ARREST: On Dec. 8 at 7:11 p.m., officers were working an assignment in the area of King Street in Waldorf when they observed an apparent drug transaction. As officers investigated, it was learned the suspect, Thomas Arthur Clayton, 64, of Waldorf, sold several Oxycodone pills to another individual. Clayton was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute and possession of narcotics. Charges are pending against the person who made the purchase. Cpl. D. Belfield is investigating.

BURGLARY: Sometime between Nov. 21- Dec. 6, unknown suspects broke into a house in the 3800 block of Gateview Place in Waldorf and spray painted graffiti on the walls. Officers canvassed the area and are working on leads. Officer K. Makle is investigating.

THEFT OF TIP JARS: On Dec. 7 at 2 p.m., an unknown suspect stole a tip jar from the counter of Foster's Grill on Shasho Place in Waldorf. On Dec. 6, the same suspect is believed to be responsible for stealing a tip jar from Five Guys on Plaza Drive in Waldorf. In both cases, the suspect was hanging out near the bathrooms prior to the thefts. When the cashiers got busy he ran up and stole the jars. Officer C. Gregory is investigating.
