LEONARDTOWN, Md. (January 25, 2012) -- Giving an incentive for keeping fit, the College of Southern Maryland will be offering a discount for military veterans who use the college’s wellness and aquatics centers.

Currently, free tuition is available for Maryland residents age 60 years or more attending classes at CSM—including wellness and fitness classes. Fees and other course related costs are still applicable.

This initiative would extend a discount for veterans younger than age 60 on fitness, aquatics or combined memberships at all CSM campuses. St. Mary’s County Commissioner Dan Morris approached the college to examine the incentive for veterans. “My heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Brad Gottfried and the College of Southern Maryland. This is the kind of cooperation that makes St. Mary’s County and Southern Maryland the great place that we all enjoy. Please keep the veterans in your thoughts and prayers,” Morris said.

“I am especially pleased that Commissioner Dan Morris brought this idea to the college, and we are excited to be able to pursue this benefit for our veterans as a way to recognize and thank those who have made sacrifices for all of us,” said CSM President Dr. Brad Gottfried.

“We are working to make this benefit available for our veterans this upcoming spring semester. We are putting the mechanisms in place so that our veterans will be able to easily register and have the discount applied to their account,” said Dan Mosser, vice president of continuing education and workforce development.
