White Plains Man Charged in Arson of His Home

WHITE PLAINS, Md.—A White Plains man has been arrested for setting fire to his home early Saturday morning. Tracy DeMarr, 48, was taken into custody after a domestic assault and arson occurred at his home. Deputies from the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Charles County Sheriff's Department conducted a joint investigation into the incidents.

The fire at 11040 DeMarr Homestead Road was reported just before 3 a.m. by a neighbor. Forty-four firefighters from Waldorf, La Plata, Hugesville, West Lake, and Bel Alton took two hours to control the fire without any injury. Investigators describe the home as a two story wood framed single family home located on isolated farm land. The home was a complete loss and damages to the structure and its contents are estimated to exceed $100,000.

DeMarr was charged with first degree arson with additional charges being made by the Sheriff's Department. He is currently being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review hearing. The investigation continues at this time.
