Recreation and Parks Board Meeting Canceled

The St. Mary's County Recreation and Parks Board meeting, originally scheduled for Thursday, June 4, has been canceled.

Recreation and Parks Board meetings are generally held on the first Thursday of each month. For more information, please contact the St. Mary's County Department of Recreation and Parks at (301) 475-4200, ext. 1811.

Commissioners Invite Public to Flag Day Event

Citizens are invited to attend Flag Day 2015 festivities, co-sponsored by the Commissioners of St. Mary's County and the Leonardtown Commissioners, on Sunday, June 14. The event will be held on the Governmental Center Lawn in Leonardtown. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place inside the Leonard Hall Recreation Center, adjacent to the lawn.

The event begins promptly at 6 p.m. with musical entertainment followed by a procession by various color guards and veterans groups from across the County. A formal ceremony and Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance follows the procession.

The Seventh District Optimist Club will provide refreshments and free hand-held American Flags will be distributed to everyone in attendance.

Bomb Threat Closes County Government Buildings

Three St. Mary's County Government buildings were closed Monday, June 1, for part of the day due to bomb threats received.

The affected buildings (all on the Governmental Center campus in Leonardtown) were Chesapeake, Garvey Senior Activity Center, and Potomac.

St. Mary's County Sheriff's deputies searched the Potomac Building and gave the all clear signal. No device was found.
