Hughesville Man Perishes in 3 Vehicle Accident Tuesday

LA PLATA, Md. (Dec. 23, 2015)—A Hughesville man perished in a three vehicle collision on Maryland Route 231 at Teagues Point Road in Hughesville late Tuesday afternoon. The accident happened around 5:09 p.m.

A preliminary investigation conducted by Troopers from the La Plata Barrack, with the assistance of the Maryland State Police CRASH Team, indicates a Scion TC operated by Steven Allen Pirrone, of Hughesville, was stopped on eastbound MD Rt. 231 waiting to make a left turn. At the same time a Honda Civic operated by Jennifer Lee Weaver, of North Beach, was traveling on eastbound MD Rt. 231 at Teagues Point Road and a Ford F-350 operated by James Harrison Upshaw Marcum, of Port Republic, was traveling on westbound MD Rt. 231 at Teagues Point Road. Ms. Weaver failed to control her vehicles speed and the Honda Civic collided into the rear of the Scion TC. This collision event accelerated the Scion TC into the westbound lane directly into the travel path of the Ford F-350. The Ford F-350 collided with the Scion TC.

The operator of the Scion TC, Mr. Steven Pirrone, was pronounced deceased on the scene. He was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Ms. Weaver was transported by ambulance to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Mr. Marcum was transported by ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Charles County States Attorney's Office for determination of charges. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact Cpl. J. Zimmerman of the Maryland State Police Crash Team at (301) 392-1231 or the MSP La Plata Barrack Duty Officer at (301) 392-1200. The investigation is continuing and being investigated by Cpl. J. Zimmerman.
