Solomons Liquor Store Sells $26,270 Lottery Ticket

Maryland Lottery
BALTIMORE (April 4, 2016)—A 26-year-old custodian who pocketed a big Racetrax win right out of the gate is riding high on the $26,270 prize he won with his first-ever bet. The Fairfax, Va. man said he was curious about the Maryland Lottery game and decided to purchase a ticket. The rest is history.

"I don't even know how to play the game," he said. "It just looked interesting, so I figured, why not." He placed a quick-pick Trifecta bet at Southern Liquor Store in Solomons on the 9, 11 and 4 horses in five races. The novice player then put the $10 ticket in his pocket and left to continue his evening activities. He didn't even think to check his ticket until the next day.

The lucky man took the Racetrax ticket back to the Calvert County Lottery retailer and used the ticket scanner to see if his ticket was a winner. Indeed, it was, but when he tried to claim his prize, the cashier said his win was too large to cash at the store and directed the player to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his "big" prize. The new Racetrax fan didn't even know how much he'd won until Lottery officials shared the great news.

"It's still sinking in," said the winner. "It's exciting, but I'm so nervous."

The novice player said he is not sure what he'll do with the prize, but will definitely play the game again. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket over $10,000, Southern Liquor Store located at 13318 Harry G. Truman Drive will receive a $262.70 bonus from the Lottery.
