Contact via E-Mail
Calvert Amateur Radio Association is the oldest amateur radio (ham) club operating in Calvert County. Besides having fun talking locally or around the world to hams located anywhere, we provide emergency communications and public services by supporting Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) and Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES). We support various public service events needing communications. Please contact us if you need communication support for your event. We are a long standing member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL).
We meet on the FIRST Thursday every month at the County Services Plaza Building located at 158 Main Street in Prince Frederick at 7:30 PM. All hams or anyone interested in ham radio are welcome to attend our meetings.
Our first meeting of the new year will be Thursday, January 5 when we welcome everyone back. Our new CARA Oficers for 2012 will be asking what projects, activities and/or events the club would like to accomplish during the year. Be sure to attend so we can get your input.
The Repeater Committee has been hard at work since our last meeting in November. We have a new controller for the Repeater with much easier methods to program announcements.
And let's not forget the findings our Interfernce Committee has found with an out-of-spec nearby radio transmission. They have several photos and video found with a spectrum analyzer showing the 3rd harmonics right on top of our frequency.
We welcome all hams and non-ham to our meetings. You will soon learn many of the fun aspects ham operators enjoy about this hobby. You will asking yourself why you did not get involved into ham radio sooner.
Weekly Monday CARA/ARES Net at 7:00 PM (L) on the K3CAL repeater, 146.985 MHz, (neg), PL 156.7. All hams welcome on our net. General discussions.
For information please call, Dennis Bowling at 410-286-0180. CARA's website is being updated.
