Welcome to our Photo Album.  This is a collection of photographic essays on places, people, and topics related to Southern Maryland.  If you are a photographer and would like to share one or more of your photographic series on Southern Maryland, please click here for more information.
Southern Maryland from Space.  A collection of photographs of Southern Maryland as seen from space taken by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
St. Mary's County Oyster Festival.  These photographs were recorded during the 36th annual St. Mary's County Oyster Festival.  The festival was held in October of 2002 at the county fairgrounds in Leonardtown, Maryland.  Organizers reported that approximately 14,000 people attended the event this year.
St. Mary's County Fair.  Since 1947, country and city residents of Southern Maryland have enjoyed the St. Mary's County Fair. The fair is a four day festival of non-stop agricultural exhibits and entertainment.
St. Mary's College St. Mary's College.  This small liberal arts college is located in St. Mary's City.  Despite it's size and location, it ranks very favorably in the nation.
Solomons Island Solomons Island.  Southern Maryland's own version of Annapolis.  No, its not a typo.  There really is no apostrophe (') in "Solomons."
The 1999 Patuxent River Air Show The 1999 Patuxent River Air Show.  The 1999 Air Show was held on Saturday, 29 May 1999 from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The sun was hot, but the humidity was low and the sky was clear.  You couldn't have asked for a better day.
St. George Island St. George Island.  Tranquil and Serene.  Founded in 1634, this little Maryland island was the site of the first battle of the Revolutionary War in Maryland in 1776.
Life on the Water in Southern Maryland.  A collection of photographs by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) biologist Mary Hollinger and Michael Dowgiallo depicting life on and near the water in Southern Maryland. These photographs were culled from the "America's Coastline Album".
Blessing of the Fleet.  The Blessing of the Fleet takes place on the grounds of the St. Clement's Island-Potomac River Museum in Colton's Point, at the end of Route 242. In addition to the many land-based events for the pageant, boat trips are available to the island.
Blessing of the BikesThe 2003 Blessing of the Bikes took place on Sunday 13-April-2003. The event was held at the St. Mary's County fairgrounds in Leonardtown, Maryland. It was a beautiful spring day - warm and sunny. You couldn't have asked for a better day.
Support the Troops Rally.  Citizens United Foundation, a nationally known and respected grassroots organization and the Young Americaīs Foundation, an educational organization promoting conservative ideas on our nationīs campuses, hosted a rally to let the troops, their families and President George W. Bush know we support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Iraq Anti-War Protest.  While a rally to support the Troops was underway a few blocks away at the Ellipse in front of the U.S. Capitol, anti-war protestors took to the streets of Washington. Some estimate their number as high as 100,000.
Tornado Strikes Southern Maryland on April 28, 2002.  A tornado, ranging from strengths of F3 to F5, tore a path through Charles, Calvert, and  Dorchester counties in Maryland on Sunday April 28 2002.  The area suffered millions of dollars of property damage and there was a loss of three souls.  La Plata, MD was one of the hardest hit areas in Southern Maryland.

These photographs were recorded for the federal government's Historic American Buildings Survey.  There is also an accompanying report.

Calvert Cliffs State Park.  The cliffs which dominate the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay for thirty miles in Calvert County, were formed over 15 million years ago when all of Southern Maryland was covered by a warm, shallow sea.
Salt Marsh Plants.  This is a gallery of the plants of the salt marsh, pine forest, and intermediate areas. All photos are taken from Point Lookout State Park. Photographed by Alexander C. Zorach.
Survivor's Tree - Oklahoma City Murrah Building - Oklahoma City.  At 0902 on April 19, 1995 an explosion rocked Oklahoma City. A member of our staff visited the site on April 19, 1998, three years after the tragic day and 2 years before the completion of the Memorial.
