John Wilbur McConnell, Sr., age 87 of White Plains, Maryland, passed away on August 1, 2020. Born on September 12, 1932 in Richmond, Virginia, he was the son of the late Johnnie Wilbur McConnell and Elizabeth Long Lynch.

John served in the Air Force from 1951-1955 and received numerous medals to include National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He went on to work as a State Highway Supervisor and the Asphalt Industry. He was also an avid reader and read the Bible daily.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Willamenia Carson.

He is survived by his former wife of 34 years, Carol McConnell; his sister, Juanita Knight of Lunenburg, Virginia; his children, Susan Hills of Baltimore, Maryland, John McConnell, Jr. (Joyce) of La Plata, Maryland, Rebecca Foley of Baltimore, Maryland, Jacqueline Persinger of Macon, Georgia, Karen Lopez-Major (David) of Hartwood, Virginia, Kimberly Curtin (Brad) of King George, Virginia, Cyndi Barron (Chad) of Newburg, Maryland; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from 9AM until time of Funeral Service at 10:15AM at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Interment to follow at 11:15AM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.

Face masks are required for all services and social distancing is to be observed with limited attendance.
