James Ignatius Medley, son of the late Cora A. and the late Frederick T. Medley, Sr., departed this life on Monday, April 30, 2007 at Fort Washington Hospital after losing a battle with cancer.

Tiny, as James was affectionately known, was born in Accokeek, MD on May 29, 1931. He was baptized in and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, Piscataway.

James received his education through the Prince George's County school system. After graduating from Frederick Douglas High School, he worked at Dyer's Store in Accokeek, Maryland.

On September 24, 1949, James was united in holy matrimony to Laura Lee Clark. To this union five girls were born: Mildred, Diane, (the late) Felecia, Pamela, and Taloria.

After their marriage, James began his career with the Federal Government as a Produce Manager with Walter Reed Commissary in Washington, D. C. until he retired. He also worked part time for and retired from the Prince George's County School Board.

James "LOVED" betting the horses and couldn't wait to go on the Medley Family bus trips especially to Foxwoods. He also loved traveling, bowling, and children. He was lovingly called "Mr. James" by the neighborhood kids. His favorite TV show was, "The Price Is Right." All of his appointments were scheduled around him seeing that show.

James leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife Laura Lee of 57 years, four daughters, Mildred Johnson, Diane Rivers, Pamela Medley, and Taloria Medley; one son-in-law, Sterling Johnson; seven Grandchildren, ten Great Grandchildren, six sisters, Mary Paschal, Shirley Singleton, Doris Medley, Gloria Milstead, Joyce Brown, and Carolyn Bracey; one brother, Wardell Medley; two brother-in-laws; three sister-in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Felecia and brothers, Fred, Alvin and Jasper Medley.

His viewing will take place on Monday, May 7th, 9:00a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial 11:00a.m., St. Mary's Church Piscataway. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Maryland. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A.
