Joseph Robert Underwood (Bobby) passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, at the age of 93 in the home that he built in 1961. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melville Lederer Underwood and Clara Baden Underwood, one sister, and seven brothers. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dot Underwood, his daughter Jo Ann, "daughter" Cooky (Louis), his three grandchildren, Adam (Theresa), Caitlin (Ross), Corey (Daniela), two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Mason, his sister-in-law, Mary (Sis) Underwood (Major) and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

He loved working with the community, first as a home builder in Southern Maryland where he built more than 50 homes, and later with Prince George's County Public Works department. He retired in 1992 and enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors at his homes in Baden and Colonial Beach, Virginia where he could often been seen on the porch, waving to all passersby. No one was a stranger to him.

A viewing, service, and repast will take place at Immanuel Church, 17400 Horsehead Road, Brandywine, MD 20613 on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The family has asked for donations in lieu of flowers to either the Immanuel Church General or Cemetery Fund or the American Legion in Brandywine.
