Frances Louise Clayton of Oakville, MD, departed this life on Sunday June 21, 2020. Frances, one of thirteen siblings, was born July 1, 1949 in Leonardtown, MD, to the late Joseph Isadore and Mary Catherine Banks. She was educated in the St. Mary's County Public School System.

Frances was blessed with a son, Kenneth Banks, from a previous relationship. She later married Cornell Clayton on June 30, 1979, and with this union they gave birth to a loving daughter, Bridgett Clayton.

Frances was employed as a phlebotomist for twenty-six years with St. Mary's Hospital. She was later employed with St. Mary's Nursing Home and Cedar Lane Nursing Home before her retirement in 2017.

Frances was a very devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. To those who knew her she was a very strong-willed and loving person. She had an outgoing personality, and loved dancing, listening to the oldies but goodies, and playing cards at family gatherings. Everyone loved her for her jokes and humor, and she was famous for her fried chicken, chicken salad, and potato salad.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Cornell Clayton; her parents, Joseph Isadore and Mary Catherine Banks; brothers, Joseph William and Lewis Edward; sisters, Diane Cecelia and Carry May (Biggs); nephews, Joseph William (Slack) Banks, Dwight Jamar Toye, and Marvin Davaughn Banks; brothers-in-law, George Robert Briscoe, and James Clayton Butler.

Frances leaves to mourn her children, son, Kenneth Michael Banks and daughter, Bridgett Monique Clayton; sisters, Agnes Baker(Joseph), Carolyn Butler, Helen Briscoe, Christine Banks (Joseph "Joe Pete"), Ann Banks, Catherine Toye (Everett); brothers, Raymond Banks, John Banks (Linda), and Bernard Banks (Regina); grandchildren, Maya, Nicole, Kenya, Brandon, Kendra, and Harmony; best friends, Mary Bannister and Rebecca Armstrong ; godsons, Tyrone Bannister and Darwin "Terrell" Banks and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Visitation will begin at 10 am until time of service at 12 noon on Monday, June 29, 2020 at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 38576 Brett Way, Mechanicsville, MD. Interment to follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.
