Crazed Parent Attacks School Bus with Ice Pick in Waldorf

On June 2 at 6:55 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the 2600 block of Capital Court in Waldorf for the report of an armed woman being disorderly at a bus stop. Investigation revealed a Charles County Public Schools bus transporting children to Westlake High School was stopped at a bus stop when Arlene Watson Phillips, 38, of Waldorf, confronted the driver, a 40-year-old Indian Head woman, about Phillips' child, who is assigned to ride the victim's bus. Phillips became disorderly, yelled profanities, spit at the bus driver and assaulted her. Phillips attempted to open the doors of the bus, pulling the doors off their tracks. Phillips then brandished an ice pick and climbed onto the hood of the bus, denting the hood.

Officers arrested Phillips and charged her with Second Degree Assault, Malicious Destruction of Property Less than $500, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace and False Imprisonment. She is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. There were approximately 20 students on the bus at the time. The bus driver remained onboard with the students.
