Charles County Awards $3.375M Contract for Community Bus Service

LA PLATA, Md. - Charles County Commissioners on Thursday awarded the public transportation contract to MV Contract Transportation for VanGO, the public transit system for Charles County, which is operated by the Department of Community Services.

As of Friday, May 25, 2007, three bids were received by Charles County Government. After all bids were evaluated, a presentation was made by members of the Department of Community Services that recommended MV Contract Transportation be awarded the contract, as they were the "lowest responsive and responsible bidder."

MV Contract Transportation submitted a base bid in the amount of $3,375,080.63.

MV was founded in 1975 by husband-and-wife Alexis and Feysan Lodde. The California based company is the largest minority and privately-owned passenger transportation firm in the country. They contract with more than 140 local government and transit agencies in 26 states and the District of Columbia to provide public transportation services to local residents.

Charles County Administrator Paul Comfort said he is excited with the County's selection. "Over the years, I've had some experiences working with this company. They have a wonderful reputation, and an excellent track record of quality service to its customers," said Comfort.

Veolia, the current transportation provider, will officially end its services on June 30. MV Contract Transportation will serve the same routes beginning July 1, 2007.

There will be no anticipated interruption in transportation services for residents of Charles County.
